I had my weekly doctor's visit today. Well, let me start from the very beginning.
I woke up around 10:30a and despite the ever present need to pee, I laid in bed until 11:20a before finally rolling my round butt out of bed. (A literal roll, mind you.) Went to the restroom and noticed a tiny amount of blood along with a small bit of mucous plug in the toilet. Blood would typically worry me if today hadn't been my 39th week. I flushed most excitedly and went to the bedroom where all I said was, "We're probably having a baby this weekend." Josh gave me an enthusiastic high five and I got to thinking about all the last minute things I'd probably need to do or know.
I still had awhile before I even left for the doctor so I ate a bowl of cereal and called the nurse just to get a back up opinion and make sure I wasn't jumping the gun on anything. I know very well that mucous plug does not necessarily mean labor. She said more than likely it's just my cervix softening (as it should be at this time), thus the loss of mucous.
I ate, got ready, and was followed around by Josh for a bit with his talking going a mile a minute (something that happens when he's excited and/or nervous). I figured we might as well put our bags in the car for out hospital visit jsut so it was one last thing to worry about in the event of labor. The only few things we now have to worry about are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, and body wash. Well, and whatever Josh is wanting to take for entertainment. He's set on having a couple of books and his guitar; I'm set on him giving me massages and feeding me ice chips haha
The wait in the office didn't take long and when the doctor came in she asked her usual "How are you feeling?" I answered with my usual "I'm fine" but without my usual enthusiasm. Hey, I've been feeling hot, worn out, and all together miserable the past week or two. I told her about the bathroom event and Josh let her know I was moaning all night due to contractions in my sleep. Obviously, they weren't serious enough to wake me up so he decided to let me continue sleeping. She checked my cervix and I had jumped up from 1cm (last Thursday) to 2.5 cm (today). 1.5 cm in one week!! She also told me how effaced I am, but I was too busy celebrating the jump in dilation I didn't hear. Josh swears she said 80%, which is 50% more than last Thursday.
Then came her next question: "If you haven't had this baby by next Wednesday, do you want me to help you along?"
NOW comes the enthusiasm: "YES!" was my immediate response. This got a good laugh out of the doctor, the nurse, and Josh. So, if I am still pregnant come Wednesday the 11th, I will checking into the hospital at 6a to be induced with pitosin and will be expecting visitors to hang out and keep me occupied and entertained.
So that's the news this week. Unless something more happens. I'm at my mom's house tonight and until tomorrow evening at the earliest. Since Josh works overnight on the eastside, I figure I'll stay at my mom's just in case I go into labor. Plus, she's much closer to the hospital than I would be at my apartment.
Crossing fingers we have a baby this weekend!!
