7.17.10 Saturday - Baby Shower - hosted by Ashley, Matt, and baby Stella - Greenfield, IN
Let's see, what can I say about this day? I could go on and on about the wonderful gifts I received for James and I could tell you all about how I stuffed my puffy face full of cupcakes, red velvet cake, fruit, pasta salad, hamburgers, chicken salad, and Oreo truffles and I could definitely tell you all about how much I loved being the center of attention (it's a genetic thing, goes that deep).
But really what I loved most about Saturday was seeing my small but significant group of loved ones around me; there was SO MUCH support and love for me in that room, it was totally overwhelming. It wasn't limited to just that room in that house; I've gotten gifts all weekend from friends to show that they are just over the moon with happiness and excitement for me. I feel incredibly loved and blessed and I know James is going to grow up being spoiled, loved, and fought over when I need a babysitter (right?!). :)
7.18.10 Sunday - Indianapolis Zoo - family trip - Mom, Amber, Chris, Christa, Josh and me
Bright and early the next morning Josh and I woke up to go to the Indy Zoo for the morning with the family. I was so excited, despite the impending mugginess of the day. The zoo is the zoo; it's my favorite place in this city! We got there around 10:30a - parking was a breeze, as was getting in and around. LEGO had this huge display; LEGO towns are so awesome to see and I took photos of them all of course.
My wish for a nice day was granted when we got half way through the Plains and a good ol' fashioned Indiana downpour came out of nowhere and we were soaked through. The Indy Zoo AND rainstorms?! Could I be any luckier?!!!!! (Answer: maybe, maybe not.) It made the rest of the zoo trip cool, comfortable, and even more enjoyable.
Oh, did I mention earlier how incredibly easy it was to pet the dog sharks? No, well, early morning is the time to go; there are no crazy kids splashing the water and parents grabbing the sharks' fins, scaring them and pissing them off. It's fabulous!

After we stood under the trees getting thoroughly soaked we decided we might as well go over to the cheetahs exhibit and continue to get soaked. The cheetahs are gorgeous! Seeing them on TV is absolutely nothing compared to seeing them just on the other side of the window. 3 sisters and 2 brothers make up the exhibit and I wish it were a permenant one.
It was such an awesome weekend! I wish it never had to end, but I know more and more awesome weekends are on their way and soon (oh so soon) there is going to be James added into this big picture. I had some small contractions last night around 2am that I wouldn't have even felt if I hadn't been awake. I don't find it surprising, after the big weekend I had. My OB goes on vacation next week and that puts me 2 weeks away from my due date -- so I will not be surprised if next week is the week I go into labor and have to have one of my backup OB's deliver James. It's not a case of "I WANT MY DOCTOR! NOT A STRANGER!" It's a case of "My doctor deserves to be the one with me since she's been my doctor from the get go." Dr Hoffman is a great doctor, and I will be a little bummed if she misses James' birth, but nature is nature and I can't hold him in if he says it's time to come out. Besides, I'd much rather get the new baby smell and snuggles than walking around feeling miserable as I do now.
We will see what happens. Until my next update (possibly Thursday after my appointment)...
